[M] Chapter 3: The Engagement (1/1)
My Wife is a Gangster Chapter 3: The Engagement Party and Wedding Sheer beige drapery hung in an orderly pattern against the walls of the dining hall. Centered with arranged bouquets of white flowers. Guests mostly from the 'brides' side filled the halls. On both sides of along the walkway from the door into the halls men in black suits lined up in a ceremonial fashion. The groom side of the family stood by the door greeting handful of their own guests. "Yeoboo...where is the future bride...and the inlaws?" Woohyun whispered to his husband. "A..ahh the bride's side are business people, be patient yeobo I believe the father and mother will arrive soon." Sunggyu patted his wife's hand. "....The men in black suits are scaring me Yeobo. Are they really salarymen?" Woohyun whispered eying them suspiciously, "...How rich is the other side to have so many workers?" Myungsoo stood by the door with his parents politely greeting guests that he didn't even know. There were few people from his work, neighbors, and family friends of his parents'. The groom's side were few, and looked out of place in the large royal halls. A black limo pulled up changing the atmosphere. The men in black suits assembled bowing 90 degrees as the limousine's doors opened. First to step out was handsome man with sharp jaw line and eyes, following after was someone more familiar to Sunggyu; the bride's mother, and a young diva-like person with pink hair; this person seem to be the bride's younger brother. Last to walk out of the limousine was Sungyeol dressed in a black suit. Walking down the walkway into the dining hall, they looked like a royal family. The bride's family made a stop by the doors. The two side bowed in greeting. "Hi, it's an honor to finally meet with the groom's side. I am Lee Howon, but you can call me Hoya." Hoya said reaching a hand out to Sunggyu and Woohyun. He stopped at Myungsoo eying him for a few seconds, and proceed to shake his hand as well. In politeness Myungsoo bowed at the older man. "I believe I can trust Sungyeol with you?" Hoya said sternly, giving Myungsoo the judging eye, and tightening his hand. "Aye...Abeonim." Myungsoo said, bowing to his soon to be father-in-law. His mother-in-law greeted him with a loving smile pulling Myungsoo into an unexpected hug. The two sides gathered before the guests giving off a peaceful atmosphere, but to the unseen eye there were tension between the bride and the groom to be. Don Howon and Sunggyu each gave a toast to the young couple as they exchanged engagement rings. The Dongwoo and Woohyun were busy in deep conversation, and the young pink haired Sungjong was entertaining himself as he watched the bride and groom secretly arguing amongst themselves. "Stop looking like a rock and smile you punk! My Umma is watching!" Sungyeol whispered to his future husband nudging him on the side. "...Hmph...I am smiling." Myungsoo retorted, and rolled his eyes, "You're the ruining the atmosphere with that scowl of yours." Sungyeol narrowed his eyes at Myungsoo, as Myungsoo smirk at him. A loud pop took the bride's and groom-to-be's attention. Sunggyu had open the Champaign bottle as an opening ceremony of celebration before the food is served. Woohyun stared at Sungyeol between mid conversation with Dongwoo. The bride-to-be was drinking glass after glass of Champaign. There were men standing behind him waiting to pour the next one for Lee Sajangnim. His own son Myungsoo huffed as he sat next to Sungyeol drinking his own glass in silent. This did not look like a happy new couple. There was something that Sunggyu wasn't telling him. Between glass Sungyeol would sneak small glances at Myungsoo. It angered him greatly that the younger man wouldn't give him time of day. The nerve of him, ignoring Sungyeol on their engagement day just like the day they meet. Sungyeol wasn't at all bad looking, and he comes from a well off family, what isn't appealing about him to Myungsoo? He huffed and drank another glass. His face felt hot, and his heart felt heavy. "S..Sajangnim...I think...you've had enough for one night." One of Sungyeol's subordinate whispered to him ear. "Nonsense!" Sungyeol snapped at him and took another drink, but a hand stopped him. Myungsoo took his drink from him. In a swift moment the raven hair man drank it without hesitation. "Yah...YOu..." Sungyeol was losing control. Myungsoo coldly leaned in next to him, pretending to whisper sweet nothing in his ears. He was really putting on a show for the parents, although Howon eyed and Sungjong eyed them suspiciously. "I think you've had enough for one night. You don't really want to make a scene do you?" Myungsoo's voice was cold, even though he was smiling Sungyeol knew he was putting on a show for the guests and elders. "I don't care...They all might as well think I'm drinking out of happiness." Sungyeol said bitterly, trying to pour another glass for himself, and spilling some liquid over the table. Myungsoo took his hand again this time pulling him up. Sungyeol lost balance and fell into Myungsoo's arms with his face in his fiancée's neck. Both Dongwoo and Woohyun looked at the couple in surprise as well as the guests. "E..Excuse us Abeonim, Eommanim, Abeoji, Eomma, and Sungjong...It seems Sungyeol is feeling a bit light headed, so I'll be taking care of him in the Waiting Lounge." Myungsoo said, bowing and grabbing onto Sungyeol as he buried Sungyeol's face in his chest to prevent the older boy from protesting. Sungyeol grasp for air as soon as they got to the Waiting Lounge. "YAh, were you trying to kill me or something!" Sungyeol yelled. "You were making a scene! I was trying to help the situation." Myungsoo argued. "As if you're completely faultless in this!" Sungyeol snapped. He was already feeling imbalanced, and it also didn't help that his chest was feeling heavy. His eyes were burning. "......Look, Why don't you have a seat and cool your head. We'll just wait it out before heading back." Myungsoo reasoned. Sungyeol wasn't listening to him and was making his way back to the party hall. In irritation Myungsoo grab hold of Sungyeol. "...Look...I'm sorry...ok" Myungsoo apologized. " It's my fault, I should act more caring towards you, at least in front of the elders and Sungjong." "....." Sungyeol remain silent, he could feel his lips forming a pout as he listened to Myungsoo's words, but his heart seem to be a bit lighter to hear the apology. "...I'm just not use to all this, ok,...just the situation...and all the people...'your' people...I've never been around this kind of environment before...you know with...so many 'members'...and your Abeoji...it's just a bit intimidating... " Myungsoo confessed. "...D..do you hate...that you have to marry me...?" Sungyeol asked, for the first time he was actually afraid to hear the opposite party's answers. He barely knows his fiancée, but there was a special feeling he had since he had met Myungsoo. "...." Myungsoo sighed, " ....I don't hate it." Myungsoo was completely uncomfortable with the whole situation. He admit at first he did hate the fact that he was forced into the marriage due to his family's situation, and also a big factor was that Sungyeol is a loan shark. Myungsoo had always thought that one day he would marry a normal person from a normal family, but when he met Sungyeol, it didn't feel so bad anymore; given Sungyeol was rude, arrogant , and a gangster, there are some things about Sungyeol that he liked. Sungyeol had his cute side as much as Myungsoo tried to ignore it. Another factor comes from Myungsoo, he wasn't good at expressing his emotions either, that aspect had always been with him since he was young, mostly because as a kid he moved around a lot with his parents before they settled in the countryside, and never really had friends his age. Sungyeol felt lighter upon hearing that Myungsoo doesn't hate the idea of marrying him. He faintly smiled at Myungsoo. The raven haired man looked so handsome in his engagement suit. Sungyeol had failed to notice that earlier. Myungsoo stared at Sungyeol without blinking taking in the other's beauty. The two had forgotten their earlier dispute. Sungyeol felt his cheeks burn up, and his temperature rising just from looking back at Myungsoo. Myungsoo reached out a hand to Sungyeol's cheek and pull their faces closer. Forgetting all time, and space he pulled his future wife into a deep kiss. Sungyeol responded to Myungsoo's approach by giving in to him, and leaning in closer. He felt Myungsoo's rough hands undoing his shirt button and sliding his hand in Sungyeol's shirt caressing his abs and hips. Sungyeol settled himself on Myungsoo's lap as the two went in for an intense make-out session, with some hand play. Their lips were numbing, and they didn't stop for air. However, there was a knock on the door causing Myungsoo to abruptly pulled back. "Sajangnim, Don Howon is asking for you." The voice said from the other side of the door. The couple hid their disappointment. "Yeh...We'll be right out." Sungyeol replied. Looking Myungsoo and realizing their position he quickly tried to get up but fell butt first to the floor. In attempt to catch Sungyeol, Myungsoo fell too, and landed on top of him. "....I...don't know what's gotten into me...Must be the alcohol..." Myungsoo said looking away, and getting up. "...Yeh...me too..." Sungyeol said, fixing his clothes, and feeling a tiny glint of disappointment. The couple blamed it on the alcohol. The young couple re-entered looking almost perfect, to no one's notice their clothes were slightly disheveled. Myungsoo's hair formed a small frizzy cow lick in the back, and Sungyeol lost a button on his shirt, but all was well as they proceeded with the party. The Day of their Wedding Ceremony came. The groom and bride had not seen each other since their engagement party due to their busy work schedules. Sunggyu was pacing back and forth in nervousness, and Woohyun patting Dongwoo on the back as the Dino Fashionista cried his eyes out. "Aigoo, my aegi's special day...oh how I dream of when this day would come..Ahh" Dongwoo said between tears of joy. "There ! there! Jang Umma! Pull yourself together!" Woohyun said. Sungyeol rarely felt nervous. He wasn't nervous on his first job, he wasn't nervous when he had to deal with debt collecting, he wasn't nervous when he has to beat people up, he wasn't nervous in dealing with other loan sharks that try to take over his turf, but he was nervous to walk down the aisle. There were so many thoughts that came to Sungyeol's mind. What if Myungsoo ran away last minute? What if another gang had heard news of his special day and came to ruin it? What if his enemies set a bomb in their car after the wedding like in "The Godfather?", What if police raided the wedding to arrest him and his father; because they found out about the kind of business that they were leading, there were so many what ifs. He hadn't seen Myungsoo since the engagement and it scared him to think that the younger man might've forgotten about their last exchange in the Waiting Lounge and went back to being distant with him. Butterflies were swarming his stomach as the music turned on. The path of the aisle didn't seem so long before, but it felt like a mile. Hoya was walking beside him, and he could feel a hint of happiness coming from his father. He was relieved to see Myungsoo standing at the altar waiting for him. Just the thought of Myungsoo not running away was a good enough for Sungyeol. He heart ease up when he saw his Umma crying in tears of joy, and his lovable diva brother smile in happiness for him. Most of all he was happy to see a small smile on the groom's usually stoic face. "Will you Kim Myungsoo take Lee Sungyeol to be your lawfully wedded wife,in sickness, and in health, for richer, or poorer......til death do you part?"The wedding priest read. (AN: sorry I don't really know for sure what the priest usually say) "I do." Myungsoo said firmly, making Sungyeol's heart jump. "And you Lee Sungyeol, will you take Kim Myungsoo to be your lawfully wedded husband, in sickness, and in health, for poorer, or richer.....til death do you part? The priest repeated. "I..do." Sungyeol said. "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss your bride." Myungsoo lean in giving Sungyeol a soft kiss on the lips sealing their promise. The audience cheered loudly as they watch the Newlyweds walk down the aisle. "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss your bride."
