Chapter 18: Miscarriage (1/1)

Narrator’s POV Yuhno paced up and down the hallway of the waiting area with sweat slowly collecting on his face, thinking How much more time do we have to waste just sitting here when we could be in there with her? Each time he turned, he’d see Andrew in the same position by the window. Suddenly, the doctor approached them and wiped his face with a napkin before speaking. You could see it in his eyes that the news was not going to go well. A new feeling of uneasiness filled Yunho’s body as fast as it did his mind.“I’m sorry Mr. Jung, but due to the accident, your wife suffered a miscarriage. I can assure you we did everything we could to save the baby, but the damage was too severe. I’m very sorry for your loss,” said the doctor so easily you could spread his words like butter.Yunho couldn't hold back his tears, he felt an array of emotions and didn’t know how to process everything.Miscarriage. It only took that one word to send Andrew’s world spiraling down. How could BoA lose the baby, it was something he couldn’t understand. I can assure you we did everything we could to save the baby, but the damage was too severe. He wanted to scream at the doctor that he and his team didn’t do enough, but he knew it wasn’t true. He hung his head in shame because in his mind this was all his fault. He was with BoA when she fell, perhaps if he had reacted faster he could’ve done more to help her.The doctor watched both men as they mourned and noticed the way Yunho was glaring at Andrew and how Andrew seemed to be blaming himself. “There is no one to blame. This was just an unfortunate accident,” he said in a barely audible voice. He let out a small sigh, noticing neither Yunho or Andrew seemed to have heard him. Just then a nurse appeared from around the corner and said, “Mrs. Jung is awake and asking for her family, please?” The doctor nodded and gestured “You heard her, she’s asking for you.” They both stood and followed the nurse to her room, but before Andrew could even walk through Yunho shut the door in his face. Making it very clear that he was not welcome. The doctor tried to persuade him to go in, but Andrew refused to force himself into a situation where he knew he wasn’t wanted. So he decided to watch the scene unfold through the window. It broke his heart to see BoA in so much pain. She was the closest thing he had to a mother and he had let her down. He couldn’t bear to stand there and do nothing, so he made his way back to the waiting area and continued to look out the window.Andrew’s POVAfter what seemed like forever,  Yunho reappeared in the waiting room and I immediately started to apologize. “Yunho, I’m…-” He cut me off instantly, not bothering to look in my direction. “Stop talking. I can't even look at you right now.” “But I…”He turned his head to face me and his eyes were colder than I’d ever seen. “I trusted you! No, BoA and I trusted you and I would think that you’d be a little more grateful!  We took you in when no one else wanted you and gave you the food off our table, purely out of the goodness of our hearts. After everything, we’ve done… How could you allow this to happen?!”I stood silent, I knew I deserved it. But when he asked how I could allow something like this to happen, I couldn’t hold my tongue any longer. “How dare you accuse me of…-!” “I am not finished!” Our eyes locked and for a moment we both were quiet, until he said, “The managers were right, we shouldn’t have adopted you. They knew you’d ruin everything… and not  just for us, but for everyone.” I took a step back from him and took a deep breath trying to keep my emotions in check. Of all the crap he’s said, that hurt. And right now, I want to wipe that damn look off of his face. “Taeyeon was nice enough to give you lessons on self-defense and they told me that you hurt her. Is that true?”My eyes widened in shock. How did they find out about that?! “No, it was an accident! After I realized what happened, the guilt I felt tore me apart. I was so angry with myself that I punched the wall and my hand went right through.” “Didn’t anyone teach you that your actions have consequences?”“Well yeah, but…-”“I’ve heard enough of your excuses, Andrew. BoA is lying in a hospital bed because of you!” He shouted. As I looked down in shame, he caught me off guard and shoved me backward.  That did it. I was tired of him cutting me off and I didn’t join this family only to be abused again. While this was probably the wrong way to handle it, he got physical with me first. I took him by the collar of his shirt and slammed him into the wall. “I don’t know what gives you the right to stand there all ‘holier than thou’ because you’re just as much to blame for this as me!  I was there for her when she fell, where were you? Oh, that’s right, you haven’t taken time off to be with her at all. You expect her to do everything by herself because, what was it that you said, ‘Carrying a baby can’t be that hard. Besides, you’re BoA, people look to you for example and so far, all you’ve done is complain. And you stay at home most of the day, so I don't know what there is to even complain about.’” Oh yeah, that shut him up real quick. It was like a dog putting his tail between his legs. A damn coward is what you are and I know how to settle this once and for all. I released my hold on his shirt and backed away. “You know what, I can make this decision easier for you, I’m out.” He opened his mouth, but no words came out. “That’s right, good luck explaining all of this to BoA.” I turned, facing my back to him and as I walked out said, “But look at the bright side, her hormones are all over the place right now, so she may or may not kill you.”Yunho’s POV As soon as those words left Andrew’s mouth, I knew I was in deep shit. Sitting in the closest chair I could find, I laid my head in my hands. God, I’m in so much trouble. I was brought out of my thoughts by a movement of color in my peripheral vision. Looking over to my left I saw that it was Changmin. It was obvious that he saw my meltdown. “Care to explain yourself, Hyung?” I shrugged my shoulders.“Judging by your facial expression, there’s not much to explain.” I took a deep breath and released it slowly. “I shouldn’t have taken my anger out on him, but something inside me snapped when I found out we lost the baby.” I held my hand up to silence whatever he was about to say. “I know that doesn’t excuse my actions. I screwed up, bad.”Changmin rested his hand on my shoulder, trying to give me some sort of comfort. “Andrew will never forget what happened here, but there’s still a chance that he may forgive you if you’re willing to reach out to him and talk about this.” He then gave a slight chuckle. “But first you need to tell BoA what happened. And you need to be completely honest with her because let’s be real, she will kill you if she finds out you lied about anything.” All I could do was nod. Narrator’s POVIn his rush to get away, Andrew ran into Yunho’s father, or should we say his biological father in the stairwell. The elder Jung pushed him away violently. “Bastard, do you even watch where you’re going?!” Andrew mumbled something that sounded like an apology and was about to leave when the elder Jung blocked his path, maneuvering him into the corner where he couldn’t escape.“Since I have you here, let's have a little chat.” He took his elbow and applied pressure on Andrew’s chest to keep him in place and then leaned in close. “I abandoned you before you were even born because I knew you’d ruin everything.” He then raised his elbow higher and applied the pressure to Andrew’s neck, choking him. “That defenseless baby died because of you. You will do well to stay away from my family.” He backed off for a moment and then punched Andrew square in the face, sending blood pouring from his nose. “Enjoy the rest of your day young man.” He said as he straightened up his clothes made his way up the staircase, a wicked grin plastered on his face. Andrew’s POVNaturally, if anyone saw a kid exiting the stairwell with blood all over their front it would cause some panic, and that is exactly what happened. The front desk tried to call security, a couple of nurses tried to bandage me up, but at the moment, I didn’t give a shit, I just wanted to get out. So I pushed past them all and out the front door, not bothering to look back.  No one understands how traumatizing and heartbreaking it is to see someone you love in pain and not be able to take that pain away. To watch it sink into her that she’ll never be able to hold her baby or watch him/her grow up. I was so caught up in my thoughts, I hadn’t realized that Jessica, Krystal, Taeyeon, and Seohyun were right in front of me. “Baby Jung, we heard BoA had an accident, is she o-...” Krystal paused mid-sentence, taking in my condition. She was in shock, as was everyone else. Jessica, on the other hand, went straight to hellsica mode.  “What the hell happened to you?!”I pushed past them. “It’s nothing, I’m fine.”Taeyeon grabbed my arm and pulled me back. “There’s blood all over your front, you are not fine.”I yanked my arm out of her grip. “Look, I’m not the one lying in a hospital bed, agonizing over the fact that my baby is gone.”Seohyun looked at me with sad eyes. “Unnie had a miscarriage?”I nodded, my face was etched with pain. “Yes, and it’s all my fault.” Seohyun slowly brought her hand up and stroked my cheek. “No, it’s not. How could you even think that?” Her touch felt so comforting, but I didn’t deserve it. I gently took her hand off of my cheek and slowly turned my back to her. “Because it’s the truth. All I do is bring pain and suffering into people’s lives.” Jessica placed her hand on my shoulder but I shrugged it off. “Andrew, you know that’s not true.” From the sound of her voice, I knew my action had hurt her, but maybe that was for the better. This is for the best. If I continue to push them away, eventually they will stop caring and everyone can go back to being happy. I shook my head in defiance. “Yes, it is. No matter how hard I try to cover up my past and push it away, I can’t! I’ll always be nothing. Even their managers knew...”Krystal’s eyes narrowed into slits. “Managers? As in Yunho and BoA’s managers?” I nodded, the weight of their words hit me like a freight train. “They said if I didn’t leave almost everyone I love would get hurt.”“Andrew, I know it seems like everything is falling apart, but it’s not. You still have family and friends who care about you.” Taeyeon said empathetically. “No, I have to leave before I hurt you guys too!” I took a moment to gather my thoughts and in a quiet voice said, “Please forgive me, but this is what I have to do.”Not bothering to wait for any type of response, I ran away as fast as I could. I didn’t dare look back to see if anyone had followed me or not, I just continued to run. I hadn’t even noticed that my feet were taking me in a specific direction until I was at her front door. I hesitantly knocked and the door opened slowly, revealing the shocked face of my best friend. “Andrew, what are you doing here? What happened to your face?!”I avoided answering her question and asked, “Jieqiong, I need a favor?”Her face became slightly serious. “Of course, whatever you need.”I forced a small smile to my face, ashamed of what I was asking of her. “Could I stay here with you for a while?” ~Author's Note~ After a very long period of time, I am back! Yes, I'm still writing. It's just a very slow process. haha Please let me know what you think in the comments. Mahalo and until next time!
