Without words  Chapter 1 - Fire  The house was a hell of heat and fire. Alex tried to breath slow and steadily, smoke was blinding his vision. He had just woken up, the curtains of his room had caught in fire and due to the heat the attachment loosened and had fallen on the floor. On the bed. On his face. Alex was pancking, but still tried to get up on his feet again. His room hat caught on fire, a small passage to the door was open, but he could see the hungry flames that were eager to close the gap. He heard somebody cry. His sister. She was in the room to his left, their bed rooms were connected. The only way out of the room was right through the small path that let upstairs. Their rooms were in the basement, Alex noticed that his lungs didn´t catch enough oxygen. But his sister...He jumped up and screamed in pain when he touched the iron computer desk, and burned his wrist. The table was literlly melting. Now he could hear her voice clearly, she was coughing. Alex didn´t think jumped over the bed and opened the door. Gasped in pain when he burned his palm while he grabbed the door knob. It was hot, heated up from the fire. „Lena!“

He rammed his shoulder against the door, heard her coughing. „Everywhere is fire...“ she whined.Alex shouted in despair, when he saw her room, it was a living oven and Lena was hiding in the last corner of the room, where the fire didn´t find a way yet. And the way to her was blocked, funiture on fire, eating up the wall around the room. „COME HERE!“ he screamed at her, just to cough heavily. Suddenly he heard noises.

„Is somebody in there?“ a person yelled.

„Here! Me and my sister! Help us!“ Alex had troubles standing, he felt sick, hold a hand on his mouth. He could already see the black smoke lingering through the room. „Hold onto something!“ he heard the voice again, and before he could even lift a finger, a tornado of water bashed into his room and started to kill the flames. But they were stubbornly coming back again.„WHERE ARE MY PARENTS?!“ Alex screamed. The were living upstairs, the bed room was on the first floor. Alex and his sister had begged them to live in the basement, it was not too hot in the summer. „We´re working on it!“ the fire fighter yelled.Alex bit his lip. Coughed.„Lena! Please, don´t be afraid, come to me!“ His sister´s eyes were full of panic, she was in a state of shock. Alex realized that she wouldn´t move one single lash. She had grabbed her teddy bear, hugged it and stared into the flames. She was hyperventilating.„Lena...“ Alex started crying. He loved his sister and she was just six steps away, but the wall of fire almost maliciosly laughed at him. He jumped in fear, when behind him the big wardrobe collapsed and one of the big doors fell on the ground. With desbelief and despair in his eyes he saw it in slow motion. The door fell, hit the table that was on fire. Already fallen, the flames happily started to lick the carpet and in a flash, the room was surrounded by another ring of fire.„Sir! Come to me!“ the fire fighter yelled and reached his hand out.„But my sister...“ Alex sobbed heavily. „We will get her out! Come to me!“ the fire fighter screamed again. He looked back. „Please...“ she whispered and stood up. Slowly walked towards him. Alex ignored the fire fighter and jumped towards the door frame and reached his hand out. She was looking at him. „WATCH OUT!“ was the last thing that he heard, when the ceiling collapsed and buried both of them under it. Alex woke up. He tried to move, it was hot. He heard noises, people were shouting, he saw several legs moving around him. And her. Lena. Alex bursted into tears, when he saw that his sister was stuck between the blue curtain, that they had bought for her a week ago, and the big piece of stone plate of the ceiling that had collapsed. The fire was gone around her.

She looked at him. Alex reached his hand out, smiled at her. The fire fighters had some heavy machinery and started to lift the enormous piece of the ceiling. He waved again. She was just looking at him. „Lena...?“ he mumbled. The plate lifted just an inch and a stream of blood almost splashed out of her mouth, but she was still looking at him. „LENA! LEEEENA!“ he screamed. She was looking at him, but she didn´t see him. Her eyes were broken, his little sister, eleven years old was lying just a few steps away from him. Dead. Her fingerss still clawed in her teddy bear.He screamed in pain, when suddenly lights appeared in front of him, and he felt the force on his back got lifted. With the movement his body exploded in pain, he screamed and screamed, his eyes still locked into the broken, green eyes of his sister´s dead body. He heard sirens around the house, people running up and down the stairs. Heard people that were talking to him, he couldn´t answer. Somebody carefully lifted him up, Alex thought his body would shatter into pieces. He heard several bones cracking. A fire fighter put something over his mouth, he could breath better. Another fire fighter walked towards his sister. Knelt down. Alex got lifted up and they carried tim towards the stairs. The fire fighter that knelt in front of Lena, covered her with a yellow blanket. That was the last thing he saw before he lost conciousnes. Hands on his body.Everywhere. „He wakes up.“ somebody said, a big commotion around him. His eyes hurt, he got blinded by a white light. He felt nautious, felt that he was moving. Heard ringing sounds.„Where...“ he mumbled and tried to move his arm, but reared up when his body disagreed and sent shock waves of pain in his brain. „Don´t move Sir. We´re bringing you into the operation room.“ Alex looked up, saw a shadow over him. Something white covered the person´s face and the hair. An angel? In a flash, six hands wrapped around his body and he got lifted on another stretcher, something stung in his arm. „What...“ he mumbled again and felt numb suddenly. People around him started to organize things, two big faces appeared over him. „Not yet.“ one person said. Alex´s world started spinning he tried to fight it. And then... Pain. That was the first thing that he felt when he woke up. He couldn´t see, panicked. Heard several machines peeping around him, one of them started ringing like crazy. A door got opened, he felt a persons hand on his own. „Sir, it´s okay. You are in a hospital.“ a woman´s voice whispered. „Can´t see... my eyes...“ Alex tried to rip the bandage off of his head, but could just move his right arm. „We had to operate you. You can see, a bandage is on your head. You´re eyes are fine. Don´t worry.“

„Hospital?“ Alex whispered again. „Yes. You´re house caught on fire.“

ALL machines around him started to scream when he remembered what had happened. The fire. The pain. His sister. Her eyes. „I NEED HELP!“ he heard the nurse´s voice and a second later, four other hands, pulled him down. „Hold him.“ the nurse said and Alex felt another small pain in his vein at the neck. A few seconds later he got thrown into darkness.  Three days later  Alex tried to lift the spoon to sip at the soup, but he had no strength in his hands. They were shaking, and to be honest, he didn´t want to eat. He didn´t want to breath. Didn´t want to live. A nurse was sitting in front of him.“Sir, please eat a little bit, I´ll help you.“ He was still blind, the doctor had said that they would remove the bandage in a few days, his head injury needed to heal for some more time. Alex opened his mouth, felt the spoon and drank the soup. Mechanically. The tears had stopped a day ago. He was exhausted from crying, his body couldn´t take it anymore. He was sleeping all day, the nurses woke him up to eat or when the doctor checked on him. Sleeping was a good thing. No thinking. „Sir?“ Alex opened his mouth again, drank the soup. „Sir, today some police officers would like to talk to you. Do you think you can do it? I can send them away again.“„It´s fine.“ he mumbled. Silence.„Just one more, Sir.“ The nurse had a heart warming voice, but shattered at Alex´s ice cold block in his chest. He opened his mouth and drank the last spoon. „That´s good. You need to recover.“ „For what?“ he mumbled. The nurse said nothing and left the room. A few minutes later, he heard the knob again, and felt that people came in. Due to his blindness, he could sense a lot more than before around him. „Sir?“ a male voice asked. A young voice. „Yes?“

„Can we sit down and talk to you a little bit?“ another voice asked. It was deeper, older. Sounded expierienced.

„Sure.“„About the incident in your house...“ the younger voice started and waited for a reaction from him. Alex gave a shit.“Continue.“ he said. „We found the cause for the fire.“

„That´s nice.“ Alex counted numbers in his head. He got better, he made it until 586 before he got confused. Blindness was one on the most boring things for him. „We found a small stone in the kitchen.“

„You did?“ Alex yawned. „Yes.“„Interesting.“Alex was annoyed. He didn´t want to talk about it. He didn´t want to hear it. The cause. How it had happend. The reason why his parents, his sister and his two dogs were eaten up by flames in just 20 minutes of his life. He didn´t want to talk on this bed with people, that would leave the room and went for a coffee and a donout. He wanted them BACK. „It seemed, that some kids were playing around the house and were throwing stones at the windows. One stone cracked the window and flew threw. We guess that the stone landed on the button for the gas on the oven. Unfortunally.“

„Yes. Unfortunally.“ Alex started to tense up. „The kitchen was slowly filling with the gas and when the, we assume, a short electronic cut caused the fridge to create a eletronic sparkle, due to all the gas in the kitchen...“„The house was on fire immediatly.“ the older voice finished the sentence. „Okay. Do you have any other question?“ Alex ask, happy for the bandadge around his eyes. He cried. „We... we need somebody to proove the identity of your... parents.“ the younger voice stuttered. The machines exploded around him, Alex was blinded but he just dashed forward and grabbed whatever he could. Luckily it turned out to be the damn throat of the police officer. „GET OUT! FUCK YOU!“ he screamed at him, felt the hands of the older police offer.“Calm down boy.“ he whispered, surprisingly nice. „DO YOU THINK I CARE ABOUT THE FUCKING FRIDGE! I WANT MY FAMILY“ I WANT MY FA....“ Alex let go of the officer´s throat and started crying heavily. The door exploded, a lot of people gathered around the bed. „Get out! We told you not to ask him! It´s not even a week! Don´t come again!“ he heard the familiar voice of the nurse that had fed him. Felt a hand on his shoulder, got pulled back right into her small arms. He reared up and tried to get away, but her grip was tight.„Calm down... they will go... I am sorry for that, they promised no to ask it. I am so sorry...“ the nurse stroke his cheek. „I want them back... give them back...“ Alex whined loud and started to hit blindly around him. Hit somebody. His mind was gone. „Give them back....“ he whispered in the nurse´s shoulder. „I am so sorry...“ she mumbled. Alex felt the cold needle at his vein again and this time he almost waited to the darkness that would relieve him from the pain.   4 month later  Alex was staring at the small paper in front of him. An adress was written on it, the adress of a house in Seoul. He sighed. He was on his way to Korea. His only... left relative had been his uncle. Alex was half korean, he understood a little bit but talking was a problem for him. He had always talked english with his parents, barely korean. With nothing left in the states his uncle had told him to come to korea and study there. He would take him in. Alex didn´t like it. All he knew was that he had a korean name.Lee Sungyeol. He sighed. Which person had that name? He knew that in korea everything was different from the states but he couldn´t even properly pronounce his name. This would be hell. And his uncle told him that he would attend a college. All boys school. With dorms. He would be caged with hundreds of korean students, when he even couldn´t write bus in signs. The plane was shaking, he held his breath. It was a small storm outside, the signs for the seat belt were on, but the stewardesses were calm. The captioa had said, that they would fly through soon. The only reason why Alex had understand it was, that the korean airplane company had at least that much consideration to speak english and korean in their annoucements. Alex was... thoughtless sometimes. He still had not really compensated the loss of his family, the eyes of his sister were hunting him every night. But when his uncle had invited him, he had agreed. Maybe it would be good for him, a total change of his life, new people, another language. Far away from their burned down house, far away from the pitiful eyes of his neighbors. The continued caring from his class mates. It made him sick. It didn´t help, it made it just worse. He looked out of the window, stared at the landscape under him. Korea looked nice. A lot of water, lakes and he could see the ocean. This was better than the States. A lot of green. Green was hope and life. Not red. Red was Fire and death.  Hope you liked the first chap. So happy to write that :)
