Summary:

When your best friend, Kai, is arranged into a marriage with some rich girl from his past, youre subsequently forced into facing your worst nightmare: becoming the bridesmaid of your longtime crush.Authors Note: So, hey! Ive noticed that most scenarios usually involve being stuck in some arranged marriage, but I thought itd be fun to switch things up a bit. I apologize if theres another plotline similar to mine; I seriously didnt get the idea from another Fan Fiction. I am aware, however, that there is some movie with an idea that goes by the same line as my story (My Best Friends Wedding), but this wont be similar to the film in any way. Anyways, thanks for checking my story out, please enjoy!  ForewordWhen the warmth emanating from your mother’s freshly baked bread felt like a pair of hands blocking your breathing, and when the sweet aroma of hot cocoa felt like a wave of dizziness drowning you in nausea, something was wrong. And that morning, that ‘something’ had kept you woken up the entire night, haunting you with terrifying scenarios of everything that could go wrong.“You aren’t eating,” Mom noted, suspiciously glancing at the silver trey she’d carefully laid out for you.“I was actually about to start,” you told her, trying to hand her a nonchalant smile. You were sure that it either turned out like a grimace or like a badly feigned smirk. Mustering strength, you gingerly took the cinnamon-coated bread and slowly took a bite from it. It was delicious and perfect, just like everything Mom’s loving hands cooked were. Too bad the nervous butterflies storming your stomach wouldn’t let you swallow.Screech! The piercing sound of heavy wood against the ground made you nervously jump up in your seat, bringing Mom’s attention back to you.“What’s up with you this morning?” she asked as she arranged the wooden seats of the coffee shop around the tables. You shook your head, letting out a barely-audible chuckle. “Nothing-“ Your speech came to a shocked halt as soon as you spotted Mom trying to retrieve your bag from the counter.“No, no, no don’t touch that! You don’t have to hand it over to me!” you exclaimed, already snatching the bag from her hands. As you diagonally strapped it around your shoulders whilst receiving a judging look from Mom, you unconsciously patted the pocket where the carefully wrapped chocolate hid. The gift felt heavier than it should, and it somehow gave you the sense of illegally carrying around a very fragile item.“Whenever you finish your breakfast, make sure to help me organize the shop before it opens,” your mother asked, busily wiping off the overnight dust from each of the tables. “Maybe you’d like to help me water the flowers inside? I’ll do the ones outside.”“Actually, I’ve gotta leave early,” you cautiously explained, biting your lower lip in guilt. You looked down at your feet as you lied, “I’ve got a college project to work on early today.”“Oh, that’s okay,” your mother nonchalantly replied. “I still have a favor to ask you, though… please ask around campus if anyone would be interested to work part-time in the shop. We’re beginning to prosper and we need a waiter or waitress that’s neither of us both.”“Of course,” you replied, relieved that she had believed your lie. You sheepishly smiled as you said, “Bye, then. I’ll see you once I get back from college.”As you walked out the shop, the welcoming bells jingled. The bright sunrays brightened up the street you lived in, making the other small shops lining the pavement look more cheerful and colorful. That morning, though, you couldn’t appreciate the lovely scenario around you –not even your mother’s sweet-smelling flowers. Anxiousness and nervousness had you completely dominated. Before walking away, your eyes automatically gazed up at the wooden, mug-shaped sign above the entrance doors to the shop. ‘The Coffee Garden’ was cursively and carefully carved on its smooth surface. Kai had made it in the seventh grade wood shop class, and he’d given it to your mother as a Christmas gift. You started being friends that year, but you’d two clicked so well that it seemed you two knew each other since babies. That friendship was a beautiful blessing in your life… which you just had to ruin the moment you began the ninth grade and a crush on him began to develop.Normally, the sign brought you a series of good memories. But that morning, it just reminded you of everything you could throw away by handing Kai his favorite chocolate before confessing your feelings to him.As you walked down the street and towards the bus station, you couldn’t help but reflect on how all those remaining years of high school you’d sailed the seven seas and climbed the tallest mountains to keep that secret buried deep down in your heart. And now, one week into college, you were about to confess everything.“It is time to get that off my chest,” you reminded yourself underneath your breath. You couldn’t just live the rest of your life feeling your heart quench whenever Kai came up to you with a new crush. Luckily for you, he’d just had two during all those years you’d met him –that singer he swore he’d marry and that one girl that only lasted for two weeks. However, you were not about to put up once again with the horrible feelings that bubbled inside you during those terrifying two weeks.“No, no, no,” you told yourself, trying to calm down the nervousness that told you not to confess.A broad hand landed on your shoulder, stopping your heart for a while. Eyes wide, you turned around to find the owner of the small jewelry shop near The Coffee Garden.“I scared you, right? I’m sorry,” Mr. Wonbin apologized, sheepishly smiling at you.“No, it’s okay. I woke up a bit jumpy today,” you told him, shrugging off his concern.“Alright, then,” he replied, as he retrieved an envelope from his pocket. He handed it over to you. “You know how the mailman is always confusing your shop with mine…”“He did it again,” you guessed, taking the envelope. You gratefully smiled, “Thanks for putting up with the confusion every time.”“No problem,” Mr. Wonbin answered with a chuckle. As he prepared to resume his way down the opposite way, he waved. “Say hi to your mom.”“Will do!” you promised, your eyes now glued to the envelope. Your brows furrowed in confusion as you spotted your name elegantly written on the back of the envelope. Wondering what in the world could be inside the item, you quickly opened it and retrieved a gold-detailed letter.“You’re cordially invited to the engagement party of Mr. Kim Jongin and Ms. Yoon Bomi,” you casually read. “Oh,” you murmured, stuffing it back in the envelope before resuming your walk. You tried to distract yourself from the upcoming confession by gazing at the stone street, but images of Kai-Wait… wait a minute. In that moment, realization hit you, and one second later, you were frantically ripping the envelope apart to retrieve the letter once again.“Engagement? Kai?” you breathed out, gazing in horror at the letter. Desperately, rapidly breathing, and pale with shock, you shrieked, “What the hell is this?”At exactly 8:31:27 AM that day, you felt as if the world around you crumbled down to a pile of dist.
