Kris was quite shy when he first joined SM as a trainee. He didn’t know the language spoken and the culture was different from Canada. He thought he wouldn’t meet anyone like him. That all changed when he meet Huang Jianyu.Huang Jianyu was a Chinese trainee just like Kris that had been living in  in Korea as a trainee since he entered in 2003. He understood the pain that Kris was going through. He was one of Kris first friends and was close with him, including the future members of EXO. Jianyu was always supporting him, telling him that he would debut very soon. When the line-up for EXO had occured, Kris and Jianyu were against each other for the last spot without them even knowing. When Kris was chosen, Jianyu was conflicted over whether to be happy or not for Kris. His feelings for him were over powered by his jealously towards Kris. EXO had finally debuted after 6 months since the line up was finalized, but Kris had heard nothing from Jianyu ever since the final line-up for EXO had occured due to him being to busy for preperations. He was worried about his best friend. What he didnt know that Jianyu had left SM, without letting Kris know and had moved to back to China... to debut in a new Chinese-Japanese group called "Moon Voice" , a group that was called EXO-Ms offical rival. Jianyu couldnt bear to face the members who he thought he could have debuted with, but was beaten by.Moon Voice had debuted a month later than EXO had. EXO-M were watching the debut performance of Moon Voice at the same Awards Show that they were performing at. Kris was not entirely interested in this new group.
